Known as the Birthplace of Aviation where the Wright brothers flourished, Dayton is situated where I-70 and I-75 intersect in what's known as the Miami River Valley, between state capital Columbus and Cincinnati, on the Ohio River. Attractions range from the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery (formerly the Dayton Museum) and the Cox Arboretum and Gardens MetroPark to the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park and the Trapshooting Hall of Fame. The city's stunning Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, representing the cornerstone of Dayton's cultural renaissance, hosts performances of the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera and the Dayton Philharmonic, along with national and international touring companies. Other cultural magnets include the Dayton Art Institute, the Dayton Cultural Center, the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, the cozy Loft Theatre and the Victoria Theatre, an artfully renovated Victorian structure hosting a kaleidoscope of stage performances. Dayton's oldest neighborhood, the Oregon Historic District, is enhanced by vintage clothing boutiques and restaurants serving bistro-styl fare to fine European cuisine. Shoppers head for any number of retail centers including the Courthouse Plaza, Fairfield Commons, Cross Pointe Centre, and, of course, the Dayton Mall.
